Summary of Intro

A philosopher had a large group of people watch a video of three people in a white tee and three people in a black tee throwing a basketball. He told everyone in the room to focus on the people throwing the basketball. A person in a gorilla suit ran threw the film, and almost everybody in the room did not see the gorilla because they were to focused on watching the people throwing the basketball back and forth. It was an experiement that showed when people are only focused on one thing it is hard for them to realize other things that are going on around them. Apparently this studied is used all over the world and in many different ways. Attention blindness means that the more that people concentrate the more they miss. Attention blindness plays a part in our everyday lives, how we work, how we interact with others, and how we interact with objects. Learning is a disruption of old patterns, it replacing something new for something old. The reason why this is talked about is because the author of this book Cathy Davis has dyslexia and learns and sees thing different. She did not discover that she had dyslexia till she was 27 years old and already a professor at Michigan University. The challenge that this book addresses is by working together, by restructuring the ways we live, work and learn, we can be able to succeed in this new information age.
